About Lean Body Mass
What is Lean Body Mass?
Lean Body Mass (LBM) is the total weight of your body minus all the weight due to your fat mass. It includes muscles, bones, organs, and water.
Unlike BMI, LBM provides a more accurate representation of your body composition and health status.
Why LBM Matters
Maintaining a healthy lean body mass is crucial for:
- Metabolic health and calorie expenditure
- Physical strength and mobility
- Bone density and injury prevention
- Long-term health and longevity
- Overall physical function
Healthy LBM Ranges
For men:
- Excellent: 70-85% of total weight
- Good: 63-70% of total weight
- Average: 57-63% of total weight
- Below average: Below 57%
For women:
- Excellent: 60-75% of total weight
- Good: 54-60% of total weight
- Average: 48-54% of total weight
- Below average: Below 48%
